Community Responder Scheme - help save lives in our community
The Berkshire Division of the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust are seeking volunteers who will be trained to respond to certain types of medical emergencies whilst an ambulance is en route. They are trying to set up a scheme of Community Responders in the Beenham and surrounding parishes.
A Community Responder’s role is to provide help whilst the ambulance is on the way and is particularly helpful in rural areas. They receive specially designed basic training including life support, oxygen therapy, use of a defibrillator, care of unconscious patients, medical emergencies, minor trauma, health and safety. If you can give up a few hours a week as part of a team, are over 18 years of age, in reasonable health, have a full driving licence, can pass an enhanced criminal records check and would like to know more, please e-mail cfr@scas.nhs.uk or ring 0800 587 0207 anytime. More details are available from Chris Curry, Blake House, Webbs Lane on 0118 971 4374 who is helping to set up a local group. Other schemes operate in nearby Ufton Nervet and Midgham.
