This scheme is a practical way of supporting older people living independently in their own homes. The service is run by Age Concern Berkshire in partnership with The Volunteer Centre West Berkshire and is supported by West Berkshire Council.

Pang & Kennet Valley Countryside Projects:
The Friends of the Pang and Kennet Valley Countryside Project has been set up to represent all the people who care about the countryside in the two valleys.

This has been set up to represent all the people who care about the countryside locally to further the work of practical conservation, spreading understanding of the countryside via talks and conducted walks, caring for endangered species and fund raising. Events are co-ordinated by the Society and provide the opportunity to engage in practical tasks, learn new skills, and meet new people. Full details are given on the website.

West Berkshire Library Service now has a team of volunteers who are willing and able to collect and deliver books and story cds or cassettes to you in your own home in West Berkshire. Read all about it in this month's Newslink or if you are interested please contact Sandra Edwards (01635 519827).

The Charles Clore Day Therapy Unit (Registered Charity No.1125923) is based at the West Berkshire Community Hospital in Newbury supports patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Not everyone is able to get there so Bradfield College is organising a number of evening meetings with the help of a health care worker and volunteers from the unit. These evenings are aimed at women under the age of 45 coping with cancer. The support group's meetings will be held in the Main College building on the following dates:

The Pauling Shield and the Bradfield Challenge Cup have been re-instated in their original classes. The Mayfayre Cup will now be for the best entry in Photography and the Mayfayre Shield for the best entry in Adult Needlecraft, Handicraft and Art. A new trophy has been allocated to the pre-school children. There are rosettes galore, as well as cups to be won. |
