Bradfield Southend Village Stores is a non-profit making community enterprise which opened in 2005 providing a shop and post office. It was partly financed by local people, many of whom are shareholders. It is controlled by a Management Committee and is currently housed in a temporary building in the car park of Bradfield Village Hall. It is hoped to get a permanent building within four years.

Update on Lea House and the new shop

The planning application for this proposal has been submitted to West Berkshire Council, but at the time of writing, the application hasn't been registered as council officers are awaiting additional information from the architects. A site notice, giving an application number with a final date for comments, will be posted on the front of Lea House as soon as all the required details are received. To recap, the proposal is for the demolition of the existing property and the erection of 5 apartments and a new shop/ post office. It will be possible to view the application drawings at the Council offices as well as on its web site.

However, we are hoping that consent will be given in the spring to allow a start on site in early summer. Naturally, we are very excited about this development as it will provide us with almost double the floor space that we have now, giving us room for better staff facilities as well as more selling space.
