YOUR URGENT ATTENTION IS REQUIRED
The Standby Volunteer Group respectfully request any driver who has comprehensive insurance and a couple of hours a week to spare to contact Fred Syrett (01189 744235).
Permits for hospital parking are provided (by Standby) and (generous) mileage allowances are paid. Please help. |
The aim of the STANDBY GROUP is to provide transport for people who do not have access to or cannot use public services to take them to hospital and surgery appointments - including chiropodist, dentists, opticians, etc. - and return them to their homes.
STANDBY covers Stanford Dingley, Bradfield, Southend, Theale, Englefield and parts of Tilehurst. Our office at Cock Lane Surgery is manned by volunteers on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10.00 a.m. and 12 noon. At other times there is an answer phone which records requests for assistance. No call is left unanswered.
STANDBY will attempt to provide a volunteer driver who will use their own car. Volunteer drivers are covered by a special insurance when driving for Standby. They also have permits which allow them to park as close as possible to the clinic the patient is attending. They receive a mileage allowance to cover petrol costs calculated from leaving their own home until they return there.
STANDBY is assisted by grants from Parish Councils and various fund raising activities, but people using the facility are expected to make a contribution, either in cash or tokens. This goes towards the expenses of the driver and recognises they are giving their own time without reward.
Owners of cars wishing to volunteer as drivers should contact Fred Syrett (01189 744235). However they must realise that undertaking this involves waiting while the patient is treated as well as the drive to and from the necessary clinic. |
