Bradfield Southend Village Stores Update - June, 2010

NEWS UPDATE

New Committee Members: the AGM is an important time, not just for approving the Annual Report and End of Year Accounts, but also it is the time to appoint a new committee. The existing committee members have to stand down but can put their names forward to stand again. Our Association Rules state that we have to have a minimum of four members and a maximum of eight. Currently we have five with a few people doing jobs behind the scenes who are not on the committee. The past year has had a huge impact on our staff and committee alike, running the existing store and carrying out the task of setting up the new shop.

The Facts of Life: whilst the day to day work is ably carried out by the staff under the management of Angela Turner and Liz Richards, the Management Committee's involvement is essential. We have constantly asked for new members to join us and, apart from one, no other volunteers have come foward. Some of the existing committee may wish to stand down at the AGM and some definitely want to reduce the amount of work they do for the shop. The amount of work needed to be undertaken by committee members has been hugely reduced now that we have moved into the new shop. If we were able to get a full complement of members, then the work could be shared out on a fairer and more sustainable basis so there would no longer be any adverse impact on the committee volunteers. (The minimum time commitment is one evening a month for the committee meeting). We welcome anyone with an interest in the shop who feels able to contribute a bit of their time to a growing local retail business.

We are in the process of preparing a detailed schedule of the work done by the Management Committee. If anyone thinks they would be interested in helping, we would be happy to make this available. Please speak to Bill Rowntree (9744892) or Julie Noakes (9744613) if you are interested.
